Catawba County Deputies Investigating Fatal Shooting

On Thursday at 5:01 p.m. Deputies with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a person shot at a residence in the 5000 block of Hope Rd. When Officers arrived, they discovered Larry Ray Whisnant , age 31, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Trevor Kiernan O’Mara age 30 of Vale, has been charged with murder in Whisnant’s death. Investigators have learned that an apparent altercation between Whisnant and O’Mara led to Whisnant’s death.

O’Mara is being held without bond and has a first appearance scheduled for today in Catawba County District Court.
