Caldwell County Judge Sentences Woman To Serve At Least 19 Years

A Greensboro woman will spend 19 to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury in Caldwell County Superior Court.

20-year-old Kelani Courtney Fields was sentenced to serve the active prison term by the Honorable Daniel A. Kuehnert, Superior Court Judge from Burke County, on Tuesday, December 3. The defendant pleaded guilty as charged to the crimes in July 2024, leading to last week’s sentencing hearing

On September 30, 2023, the defendant drove to Caldwell County from Guilford County and attacked her former caregiver with a knife. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte to receive treatment.

Investigation of the case was conducted by the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant District Attorney Nolan Hancock prosecuted the matter for the State.
