The suspect of a manhunt following a fatal shooting in Catawba County is in custody. 39-year-old Thomas Christopher Banks of Vale, was captured Wednesday by US Marshalls.

On Tuesday, Deputies with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on Dansbury Lane in Vale. Rusty Johnson was located at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

Banks was identified as the suspect in the case. A search was conducted Wednesday until he was taken into custody late in the afternoon. Banks (pictured) is being held in the Catawba County Detention Facility without bond. A District Court date was scheduled today in Newton.
