Burke County Man Sentenced For Trafficking Meth

November 22, 2024 By Richard C. Gilbert

Scottie Alan Keith Frady

27-year-old Scottie Alan Keith Frady of Morganton was sentenced Thursday to 204 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for trafficking methamphetamine and illegal possession of firearms, including a machine gun. The announcement was made today (November 21) by Dena J. King, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, who was joined by Burke County Sheriff Banks Hinceman and others.

In May 2023, Investigators were in the process of arresting Frady, who had absconded from post-release supervision. He was taken into custody at a residence in Morganton. A search of the residence turned up more than 2.1 kilograms of meth, two loaded firearms, and over $1,500 in cash. From another residence in Rutherford County, Investigators recovered a machine gun and an AR-type pistol that belonged to Frady. Officers also found pictures of firearms that Frady had posted on social media and text messages in which he discussed the firearms that were seized.

In December 2023, Frady pleaded guilty to meth and firearms charges. He will be transferred to a federal facility.

U.S. Attorney King expressed her appreciation to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office and a number of other agencies. Assistant U.S. Attorney Chris Hess of the Asheville office handled the prosecution.
