Burke County Deputies Bust Duo On Fentanyl And Meth Related Charges

May 5, 2025 By Richard C. Gilbert

On April 30, Burke County Sheriff’s Office Deputies initiated an investigation involving a suspicious vehicle at the Clear Creek Access area of South Mountains State Park, located at 5999 Branstrom Orchard Street. The vehicle was occupied by Kayly Renee Allman and Dustin Ray McCurry. Due to suspicious behavior observed on the scene, Deputies established probable cause to search the vehicle and detained both individuals.

Kayly Renee Allman

During the search, deputies discovered multiple items of drug paraphernalia in Allman’s possession, along with approximately 13.59 grams of a crystalline substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. McCurry was also found in possession of drug paraphernalia and approximately 26.96 grams of a substance suspected to be fentanyl.

Both Allman and McCurry were out on pretrial release at the time of the incident. As a result, neither was issued a bond, pending judicial review.

The estimated lethal dose of fentanyl is approximately 2 milligrams (mg), depending on individual tolerance and the purity of the substance.

Dustin Ray McCurry

McCurry, was found in possession of over 26,000 milligrams of fentanyl – enough to potentially kill approximately 13,000 people. To put this in perspective, the image below (provided by the DEA) Drug Enforcement Administration shows how small a potentially lethal dose of just 2 milligrams can be.
