Burke County Crash Claims Life Of 16-Year Old. Hiddenite Man Injured

May 5, 2024 By Richard C. Gilbert

Hildebran – On Saturday, May 4, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Burke County on Henry River Road near Rudisill Street. A 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 was traveling north on Henry River Road, drove off the right side of the road, went down an embankment, and struck a tree.

The driver, Savannah Marie Green, 16, of Connelly Springs, was critically injured and transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, where she succumbed to her injuries. Her father, Christopher Swink, 42, of Hiddenite, who was a passenger in the truck was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

During the on-scene investigation, Henry River Road was closed in the area for approximately two hours. The initial investigation indicates excessive speed to be the contributing factor in the collision.
