Alexander County Fire Marshall Mark Earle has confirmed a fatal fire this morning in Alexander County.
Units from Wittenburg, Taylorsville, Bethlehem, Ellendale and Hiddenite responded after a call at 11:25 am. A mobile home structure with additional living space attached was the scene of the blaze on River Shoals Ridge Drive in the Wittenburg Comminity.
Three other residents were in the home and able to escape the flames but one person, yet to be identified perished.
The Alexander County Fire Marshall’s Office, Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, NC Fire Marshall’s Office and the State Bureau of Investigation are still on the scene at this hour.
Fire Marshall Earle says there is a possibility the fire was caused by a wood stove.
