April 7, 2021 By Richard C. Gilbert

One person has died as result of a fire this morning in Hiddenite. An explosion and fire was reported around 6am at a residence on Ervin Lane.

More details soon…

Update: 9:00 am

Alexander County Fire Marshall Mark Earle has confirmed that one person has perished in the blaze on Ervin Lane in Hiddenite.

Earle reports there is no evidence of an explosion. He suggests that the noise heard by neighbors might have been the windows cracking due to the heat in the single-wide mobile home structure.

Hiddenite, Stony Point, and Taylorsville units responded to the blaze around 6am.

The Alexander County Fire Marshall’s Office and the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.

Update: 12:30 pm

The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, Alexander County Fire Marshall’s Office, North Carolina Fire Marshall’s Office, and the State Bureau of Investigation are on the scene at this hour.

The body was badly burned according to Sheriff Chris Bowman, so badly that it’s not certain if the body is that of a male or female.
