Boone Police Charge Man With Fraudulent Activity At Two Hotels

Boone Police say they have arrested a man after reports of fraudulent activities by two hotels.

Corey P. Connelly, age 37, is charged with two felony counts of obtaining property by false pretense and felony possession of methamphetamine. Connelly was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.

According to Boone PD, the fraudulent activity was reported at two hotels in February.

An investigation revealed that Connelly allegedly obtained financial information from clients at the two hotels. This resulted in the fraudulent use of stolen credit card information to obtain property of more than $34,000 from one hotel and an additional $26,000 from another hotel. Some financial information was illegally obtained from various businesses and individuals engaged in relief work following Hurricane Helene.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are expected.
