Braydon Rowe raced to the end zone from 60 yards with 6:56 seconds remaining in the game to break a tie and the Baby Cougars survived their conference opener in West Jefferson.
Alexander Central out-gained Ashe County 411-353. Rowe rushed for 130 yards on the night, Jeremiah Payne ran for 103 and a touchdown, and Wade Queen finished with 92 yards and a score. Queen also threw a 40 yard touchdown pass to Brayden Kirby on the last play of the first half.
Travion Ikard led the AC defense with 7 tackles.
