Attempted Murder Charge Filed Against Wilkes County Man

A Wilkes County man has been charged multiple charges including attempted murder.

According to the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies were called to a location on Robin Hill Road about a break-in around noon on Thursday. Upon arrival, deputies said the victim told them that the man kicked in the door of his residence and assaulted the victim with a blunt-force object. According to court records, deputies said the blunt-force object was a sledgehammer, and this occurred while the victim was asleep.

Investigators found multiple bullet holes that damaged the interior and exterior of the man’s home – which helped them determine that multiple rounds were shot from a firearm in the house. Deputies also found damage on the outside of the home that came from a vehicle.

Hayes is being held without bond in the Wilkes County Detention Center.
