Alexander County Woman Charged With Embezzling Church Funds

July 30, 2024 By Richard C. Gilbert

Carol Coker Gomez

A Stony Point woman has been charged with allegedly embezzling funds from a local church.

57-year old Carol Coker Gomez was arrested by the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office on Monday and charged with felony larceny by employee. She has been released from custody after posting a secured bond of $25,000.

A press release indicates that around $16,000 is unaccounted for.

Coker served as the Director of the Taylorsville First Baptist Church Child Development Center. She resigned her position when an investigation into some questions about funds emerged. Those concerns led to an investigation.

First Baptist Pastor Scott Henson declined comment when contacted other than to say “This is now a Police matter’”

Gomez is scheduled for an initial appearance in Alexander County District Court on August 5th.
