Alexander County Unemployment Drops In February

Unemployment dropped during the month of February in Alexander and neighboring counties.

The North Carolina Department of Commerce released the latest job report for all 100 counties on Wednesday. Alexander County saw their rate of joblessness drop from 5.1 percent in January to 4.7 in February. The 4.7 percent rate is nearly double the unemployment rate of February of 2020 when Alexander County posted a rate of 2.8 percent, said to be the lowest since figures were compiled.

Alexander……4.7 down from 5.1
Caldwell…….5.9 down from 6.2
Catawba……..5.4 down from 5.8
Iredell……..5.4 down from 5.7
Wilkes………5.4 down from 5.7

Statewide, the unemployment rate fell to 5.6 from 6 percent in January.

The highest unemployment rate in the state was Scotland County at 10.9 percent. The lowest was Orange County at 4 percent.
