In the early morning hours of July 19, Alexander County Government became aware of an issue with county servers and workstations, as well as cloud technologies. It was determined that Crowdstrike Falcon, the county’s cybersecurity software, had updated; however, the update contained a bug that has affected Crowdstrike customers worldwide who are running Microsoft Windows.
Alexander County IT staff has been working overnight to restore public safety functions as first priority, according to IT Director Justin Moose.
As of 10:30 a.m., Moose said all county-owned resources are operating normally, but cloud software is still being patched by those respective companies, which means some county departments can’t perform certain tasks.
The statewide DMV outage has affected the Alexander County License Plate Agency, which will likely be closing soon for the day.
