There has been great progress in road closures and power outages since yesterday morning. Alexander County is aware of 7 impassable roads and more with only one lane and trees close to the shoulder making travel still a concern. We ask that everyone be alert and use caution while driving as clean up will take time. NCDOT and utility companies are working tirelessly on improving travel and restoring power. We encourage everyone to use drivenc.gov to stay current with road closures.
Road Closures: Berea Church Quincy Rd, Jim Millsaps Rd, Black Oak Ridge Rd, Country Rd, Friendly Church Rd, White Plains Rd, NC 16 S at the Oxford Dam.
Black Oak Ridge Rd has a culvert washout and will take time to repair The bridge at Oxford Dam will require a complete inspection by NCDOT. Other roads will optimistically be opened in the near future as utility crews continue to work.
Power outages as of 7:30 am are at 3,159 customers or 16.22% of the county.
