The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office would like to warn our community of a phone scam.
Unknown individuals are calling citizens claiming to be from the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office. They may say that you or someone you know has warrants, needs DNA testing, or must pay fees for an ankle monitor. These scammers are instructing people to load money onto cards at Walmart (like Green Dot or other prepaid cards) and bring them to a kiosk at the Sheriff’s Office. If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately.
The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office will never:
• Call you to demand payment for warrants, bail, or monitoring devices.
• Ask you to purchase or load money onto cards.
• Request personal or financial information over the phone.
💡 REMEMBER: If someone asks you to pay with a Green Dot card, Walmart gift card, or any other prepaid card, it’s almost always a scam.
