Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen an increase in fraudulent calls where scammers are impersonating law enforcement officers from the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office and other federal agencies like: Federal Trade Commission, DEA, etc.
Here are some of the tactics they’re using:
Claiming you need to pay bond for a family member
Requesting payments for ankle monitor deposits
Demanding money for warrants or arrests
There’s no room in jail, so you must pay to have your family member released
They are asking for payment through Green Dot cards, Apple Pay, and PayPal.
Important: At no time will the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office ever call to request money for any of these situations. If you receive a call like this, DO NOT give them any money or any personal information and contact the Sheriff’s Office immediately.
Please share this message with family members to help prevent them from falling victim to these scams.
