Dr Denita Dowell-Reavis
The Alexander County Board of Education held its regularly scheduled meeting for March on the 10th. The meeting opened with the pledge led by board member Anthony McLain.
Honors and Recognitions
Dr. Denita Dowell-Reavis opened the meeting with recognition for a couple dozen Alexander Central High School students and their performances at the North Carolina State Beta Club Conventions. Some had to create designs, artwork; others had to perform, and still more had to take tests to place among the top in the state. Some of the students had to work individually and some as a team.

One of ACHS’s own is one of two students statewide to get a $2,000 scholarship from the state Beta Club. The Hannah Leitner college scholarship is in honor of the first National Beta Sponsor for many years. Senior Griffin Duncan received that scholarship.
Budget Update
Finance Officer Sharon Mehaffey gave a budget update saying ACS has used 64% of the budget at the eighth month mark in the school year. The overall budget for the year is $64.9 million dollars. She also told the group the overall budget is adding $131,000 in state funds. The additional state funds go to funding for yellow buses and a small amount ($3,000) to the allotment for classroom teachers.
School Board Policies
Finance Director Sharon Mehaffey presented a second reading for three policies which were approved unanimously.
Policy No. 2130: Board Member Compensation and Expenses
Policy No. 3225/4312/7320: Technology Responsible Use
Policy No. 7650: Employee Travel and Other Expense Reimbursement
The board also heard first reading for three policies and will hear them again with feedback next month.
