Alexander County Deputies Nab Two Men For Breaking Into Church

Two men have been charged with stealing from a local church.

The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office says the duo broke into a fenced area at the Stony Point United Methodist Church and stole copper tubing and wiring from the heating and air conditioning units.

Arrested on Tuesday, 44-year old Joseph Lee Proffitt of Stony Point. He’s charged with felony breaking and entering a place of worship, felony larceny after breaking and entering and injury to real property. Proffitt is being held without bond. In Iredell County, Proffitt awaits trial on previous charges of felony possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver schedule II controlled substance and possession of schedule III controlled substance.

Joshua Rick Bass, age 38 of Stony Point, is facing charges of felony breaking and entering a place of worship, felony larceny and injury to real property. He’s being held in the County Detention Center with bond set at $100,000. A Monday court date is scheduled in Taylorsville for both suspects.
