Alexander County COVID-19 Update

Almost 2,300 people received the COVID-19 vaccine this past week in Alexander County.
From Wednesday, March 17 through Sunday, March 21, Peoples Drug Store administered 1,470 doses, which includes approximately 850 doses at a mass vaccination clinic on March 20-21 at east Taylorsville Baptist church. The Alexander County Health Department administered 500 first doses and 300 second doses. The health department is set to receive 600 first doses this week to be administered on Thursday, March 25 and Friday, March 26. 300 second doses are scheduled for Monday, March 29 and 500 second doses for Wednesday, March 31. As of March 22, the health department has administered a grand total of 9,353 doses.
Alexander County has been downgraded to a “yellow” county (significant community spread) in the NCDHHS’ County Alert System. The county’s positive test rate is 4.2 percent, while the state rate is 5.8 percent.
