A former poultry operation went up in flames this morning in Alexander County.
Multiple Fire Departments were dispatched to 85 Arthur Jenkins Lane around 7am. As units arrived the structure was engulfed in flames.
County Assistant Fire Marshall Garrett Huffman said the operation had not been occupied with chickens for a year or so. He says the fire was accidental and probably electrical in nature. The billowing smoke was visible for miles.
