Taylorsville: Despite a cold shooting night, Alexander Central pulled away from South Caldwell in the third quarter and got a win Friday night. AC led at the half 18-16 despite shooting 19 percent from the field. The difference was the Lady Cougar’s pressing defense that forced 31 South turnovers. Anna Grace Coble led the Lady Spartans with 17 and Holland Weisner pitched-in 15. Alexander Central improves to 16-2 and 4-1 in Northwestern Conference play. South slides to 9-10 and 1-4.

While the Lady Cougars survived a cold night shooting night, the AC Men could not recover from an Arctic-like shooting performance. Arctic indeed, they shot 16 percent (4 of 25) in the second-half. South mastered the boards as well out-rebounding the Blue and Gold 42-29. Jaheim Redmond and Jahmir Miller had 10 each to pace the feeble Cougar scoring. The loss sinks AC to 11-7 and 3-2 in league. South got 16 points from Colby Greene and they move to 13-5 and 3-2.
