Hickory: The Lady Cougars cruised as the #1 seed over Newton-Conover on Wednesday.
They led 20-6 after the first quarter. Newton-Conover had 29 turnovers leading to 31 points for the defending tournament champions.
Meredith Wike led AC with 18, Hallie Jarrett added 10.
Alexander Central is 12-0, Newton-Conover drops to 1-8.

St Stephens beat Alexander Central on Wednesday in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Basketball Classic in Hickory.
The Cougars got off to a slow start and trailed by as many as 16 in the 2nd quarter. The Indians led 25-17 at the half and 37-27 after the third period. AC managed to rally to within a point to see the comeback fall short.
Three-point shooting favored St Stephens who went 9-20 while Alexander Central managed just 1 of 12.
Jonah Long led St Stephens with 17 pts and 12 rebounds.
Chad Lasher had 18 and Garison Millsaps 10 to lead ACHS who fall to 5-7. The Indians are 6-3.
