The Alexander Central Basketball season marches on to Round II of the State Playoffs for both the Women and Men !

The Lady Cougars roll into the second round of the post-season with a convincing win over the visitors from Guilford County. Up by only 22-19 at the half, AC kept Ragsdale at arms length behind a monster night from senior point guard Julianna Walter. Walter had 34 points including 5-6 from behind the three-point line. She also dished out 4 assists and had 5 steals.
Coach John Presnell had the Cougars spreading the floor for much of the second-half and Walter feasted with room to shoot or drive to the basket. AC improves to 22-4 and will travel to 23-3 East Forsyth who beat NW Guilford 57-46 tonight. The game is set for a 6pm tipoff.

Grayson Presnell iced the game for the Cougars with pair of free-throws with 10 seconds remaining giving the Cougars 4 point lead. AC had several chances to put the game away but struggled from the free-throw line going just 8 of 14.
Page tested the Cougars with an aggressive defense that at times had the Blue and Gold a bit out their comfort zone. The game featured 11 lead changes with the visitors leading 24-21 at halftime. The Cougars outscored the Pirates 17-7 in the third period and was able to hold off Page despite being outscored 20-15 in the fourth quarter.
Evan Presenell led the Cougar scoring with 23 and Avery Cook added 12. The win gives Alexander Central a record of 23-4. The 23 wins sets a new school record for wins in a season.
Round II action will have the Cougars hosting 24-4 North Meck who destroyed Winston-Salem Reynolds 116-56. The game is set for 6:30 pm.
