Taylorsville: Alexander Central built a 21-14 lead at half and won a first-round conference tournament game Monday night.
AC was led by Addie Jack with 11. No other Lady Cougar reached double figures in points although Meredith Wike and Faith Burch had 11 rebounds each. Alexander Central’s starting 5 produced all their points. Hibriten (12-13) was led by Aamorie Patterson with 11.
The Lady Cougars (15-10) will play #1 seed Watauga on Tuesday at Ashe County High School in West Jefferson. The game will tip-off at 4pm.
Men
Alexander Central 57 Ashe County 34
Another big night for the Cougars Jayon Connor. The junior added to his single-season scoring record with 37 points and 15 rebounds. The Cougars never trailed leading 31-10 at the half. Ian Graybeal led the Huskies (7-15) with 12. AC, with a record of 12-12 will play top seed Watauga on Tuesday in West Jefferson. The game is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
