Alexander Central 66 Newton-Conover 30

Newton: The Lady Cougars never trailed stayed perfect on the season (6-0) Wednesday night on the road. Up 25-8 after the opening period, AC dominated behind Ava Heads’s 18 points and Meredith Wike’s 14. Alexander Central out-scored the home team from behind the three-point line making 12 while the Lady Red Devils made none. Jenna Sain led Newton-Conover (0-3) with 20 points.

Varsity Men

Newton-Conover 62 Alexander Central 59 (overtime)

A back and forth battle saw 15 lead changes and went to overtime with the Red Devils prevailing. Alexander Central led by as many at 7 in the third quarter to see Newton-Conover (3-0) comeback and force the extra period. Noah Van Beurden led ACHS with 24 and Jaheim Redmond added 20. Braxton Eckard had 30 for the home team. The loss is the third straight (2-3) for the Cougars after a pair of wins to open the season.
