Alexander Central 47 Southwest Guilford 39
Taylorsville: Survive and advance, that what post-season basketball is all about. Alexander Central survived and won their first round State Playoff game Tuesday night beating Southwest Guilford 47-39.
The Lady Cougars led most of the scrappy, physical contest although the visitors took a brief lead in the 3rd quarter. AC’s woes from the free-throw line (13 of 26) kept the Cowgirls in the game.
Alexander Central forced Southwest to 20 turnovers.
Meredith Wike had an off-shooting night (6-17 from the field and 6 of 13 from the free-throw line) but managed 20 points. No other Lady Cougar hit double figures.
Aleesia Evrette was the top scorer for SW Guilford with 21.
ACHS (21-6) will travel to Marion Friday night to battle long time rival McDowell. The Lady Titans defeated Providence 46-39.
