The deadline for schools to appeal the second realignment proposal for high schools passed at 4:30 pm on Tuesday.
The NC High School Athletic Association has divided the schools into 8 classifications compared to the traditional 4.
In the most recent proposal, Alexander Central a 6A school, was slotted with Mooresville 7A, Lake Norman 7A, South Iredell 7A, Statesville 6A , St Stephens 6A and North Iredell 6A. That would take ACHS away from their traditional foes Watauga 6A, South Caldwell 6A and Freedom 6A. Those schools were shifted west into a league with 7A McDowell and 6A schools, Asheville, AC Reynolds and TC Roberson.
What is expected to be the final alignment configuration will be released next week.
The new leagues will begin play during the Fall Semester.
