Alexander County Unemployment Show Slight Increase

Unemployment increased slightly in Alexander County during the month of February.

According to figures released by the North Carolina Department of Commerce, Alexander County saw it’s rate of joblessness go from 3.4 percent in January to 3.5 percent.

Other area counties also saw increases

Wilkes…..3.9 up from 3.3
Caldwell…3.6 up from 3.2
Iredell….3.5 up from 3.1
Catawba….3.4 up from 3.1

The statewide rate was unchanged at 3.7 percent.

Unemployment increased in 50 of North Carolina’s counties in February 2024, decreased in fourteen, and remained unchanged in 36. The highest rate of unemployment was Hyde County at 9.7. The lowest was Watauga County at 2.7.
