Cougar Football Wins On the Road

For the first time ever Alexander Central and RS Central competed against each other in a football game. The Cougars, playing with a COVID-19 depleted roster, pulled away in the second half of the contest played in Rutherfordton. The game was not scheduled until Thursday after AC’s scheduled opponent Lake Norman placed their team in COVID-19 protocol.

The Cougar defense held the Hilltoppers to 102 yards on the night while the AC offense rolled to 333 yards on the ground. Andrew Bumgarner who started the game at tailback in the absence of Cameron Lackey gained 141 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown. Logan Shoemaker rushed for 93. QB Luke Hammer scored a pair of touchdowns. Russell Frasier also found the end zone.

Dalton Beck collected 10 tackles for the Cougars who improve to 3-1. The Blue and Gold are scheduled to host Marvin Ridge on Friday, September 17th.

Injury Report. The Cougars played the game with a number of players not making the trip due to COVID-19 protocol. Their status for next Friday is unclear.
