2019 Cougar Football Schedule Is Taking Shape

January 2, 2019 By Richard C. Gilbert

The 2019 Alexander Central Football schedule is set. The Cougars went 9-3 in 2018 and look to be strong again, they better be. The non-conference portion of the schedule is at least on paper significantly more challenging. Last season the Cougars jumped out to a 4-0 start to the season with routs over Burns, Wilkes Central, North Lincoln, and North Iredell. Wilkes Central is the only opponent to remain this Fall. The dates have yet to be announced but the Cougars will face Hibriten, South Iredell, Statesville, and Wilkes Central.

When West Caldwell was allowed to drop to 2A beginning this Autumn, it meant the Northwestern Conference was losing a team. Cougar Football Coach Butch Carter says it was tough to get an 11th game but Olympic High of Charlotte will be on the Cougar schedule in 2019. Alexander Central and Olympic have played once before, a 17-6 playoff win by the Cougars in 2004.
