Wrong Way Driver Dies In Wilkes County Head-On Collision

WILKESBORO- On Thursday, December 4th at approximately 11:50 p.m., The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision on US 421, in Wilkes County. A 2014 Ford Taurus was traveling the wrong way, Southbound in the Northbound lanes of US 421 and collided head on with a 2015 Subaru Forester.

The driver of the Ford, Willa Church, 76, of Purlear, succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the collision.

The driver of the Subaru, Carson Sullivan, 22, of Wilkesboro, was transported to an area hospital with non-life- threatening injuries.

The initial investigation indicated speed or alcohol were not contributing factors in the collision. There will be no charges in this case.

While troopers conducted the on-scene investigation, US 421 was closed for approximately 2 hours.
