Boger City- On Tuesday, April 29, at approximately 7:40 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Lincoln County on NC 27 near NC 150.
A 2014 Mack garbage truck was stopped in the travel lane while performing its duties. A 2011 Toyota Camry traveling west on NC 27 failed to adequately reduce speed and struck a worker in the roadway at the rear of the truck.
The worker, Brandon Scott Carpenter, 35, of Dallas, was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the Camry, Danica Lashea Borders, 35, of Lincolnton, was not injured.
The initial investigation does not indicate impairment to be a contributing factor. Borders was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to reduce speed. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately two hours. No other workers on the commercially operated truck were injured.
