
Chelsea Lee Crompton
Hazel Lidey, age 4, was found unresponsive at a residence on Hill Haven Drive in Vale by Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Deputies on November. 17, 2022. Hazel was taken to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center where she died four days later.
Chelsea Lee Crompton, age 38, was the girlfriend of Hazel’s father She was arrested at a relative’s home in Madison County shortly after Hazel died.
Crompton pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to a minimum of seven years and 10 months in prison to a maximum of 10 years and five months. According to court documents, Crompton was scheduled to appear in Catawba County Superior Court on August 10. That hearing was canceled when Crompton pleaded guilty.
A search warrant in the case said the child’s body was covered in bruises. EMS personnel told deputies that Hazel had trauma-related injuries. Crompton is the person who called 911 shortly after 2 p.m. on November 2nd 2022.
According to the search warrant, Crompton and Hazel’s father, Christopher James Lidey, were at home on the day Hazel was taken to the hospital. A metal baseball bat and a portion of a wall were taken from the Hill Haven Drive residence by investigators.
