Woman Charged With Attempting To Rob Burke County Restaurant While Holding A Garden Hoe

A woman is facing a felony charge after she allegedly tried to rob a Glen Alpine restaurant with a garden hoe, according to Glen Alpine Police and Burke County court records.

Tanya Fox Ward, age 51 of Morganton, is charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with a July 13th incident at Foxhole Pizza and Subs at 101 E. Main St.

According to an arrest affidavit, Ward entered the restaurant around 6:30 p.m. and demanded money. After being asked to leave, she returned with a garden hoe and tried to take cash from the register, the affidavit states.

A restaurant manager confronted and struggled with the woman before she fled in a vehicle.

Court records show Ward was arrested while on pretrial release for a separate, earlier offense, so a judge rather than a magistrate was required to set her release terms. She was held after her arrest until that hearing.

On July 14, a District Court Judge set her bond at $250,000 secured, with conditions barring her from contacting the victim, ordering her to stay away from the restaurant and prohibiting her from possessing weapons.
