The day care worker who was charged in connection with the death of a toddler in Caldwell County is out of jail after posting bond on Thursday.

Officials say Alexandra Lee Livingston Coffey , age 29, was out of jail after posting a $500,000 bond. Coffey was charged Wednesday with involuntary manslaughter for her alleged involvement in the death of a 16-month-old girl who died on Monday, May 19.

Coffey was an employee with Creative Beginnings of Lenoir where the toddler died from what police believe to be cardiac arrest. Details surrounding her alleged involvement in the death have not been confirmed as Lenoir Police continue their investigation.

Creative Beginnings of Lenoir was required to close by the end of the day Wednesday, May 21 after the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services suspended the business’ license.
The suspension decision was “based on the agency’s findings that the public health, safety, or welfare requires emergency action,” the suspension order read Monday.

Lenoir Police say the facility has been fully cooperating with the investigation.
