Wilkes County Woman Sentenced To Prison For Arson

A Wilkesboro woman is serving 22-39 months in prison after she pleaded guilty to second-degree arson and felony breaking and entering in Wilkes County Superior Court in mid-February.

Juanita Dawn Edwards, age 42, also pleaded guilty to two counts of felony cruelty to animals.

The judge ordered she have no contact with William Edward Scharke, age 47, as the victim.

The Wilkes County Sheriff’s arrested Edwards in connection with a fire that destroyed a mobile home in the Rock Creek community in August of 2023.

Edwards was charged with two counts of cruelty to animals because animals in the structure perished in the flames.
