Wilkes County Woman Charged With Murder

A North Wilkesboro woman has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the deadly shooting of her reported boyfriend on Tuesday.

Megan Jane Thomas, 39, of North Wilkesboro is charged in connection with the shooting death of Jason Gregory Olney, 41, also of North Wilkesboro.

Shortly after 5am on Tuesday, Deputies with the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting on Dogwood Road Extension in the Brushy Mountain Community. Upon arrival, Deputies located an individual suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The scene was secured and emergency medical personnel responded to provide aid. The victim, Jason Gregory Olney, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The SBI is assisting in the investigation.

Thomas is being held without bond in the Wilkes County Jail.
