Wilkes County School Bus Driver Arrested For DWI

A Wilkes County School Bus Driver has been charged with allegedly drinking alcohol while transporting students.

Wilkesboro Police arrested Kelly Ellis York, 46, of Millers Creek and charged her with driving while impaired, misdemeanor child abuse, and operating a school bus while consuming alcohol.

The incident occurred on Friday, October 13th.

The students who were on the bus at the time of the accident ranged in ages from 12 to 16 years old.

York is said to have struck the Wilkes Developmental Day School building on Welborn Avenue while backing the bus. No injuries were reported.

York has been released under secured bond of $10,000.

She has been suspended by the Wilkes County School System. .
