A Moravian Falls man was found dead at the scene of a brush fire on Wednesday afternoon.
The body of Howard Gene Carlton, 89, of 312 Brookview Drive was found by members of the Boomer Fire Department.
The Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office says firefighters responded to a brush fire around 2 pm on Wednesday, March 20. Carlton was deceased in the edge of the wood line where the fire likely started. It’s thought that Carlton was attempting to fight the fire.
Firefighters were able to limit the blaze to about 2.5 acres of woodlands and prevent any damage to the Carlton home located around 50 feet from the wood line.
No foul play is suspected. An autopsy is scheduled.
