A Wilkes County man was sentenced to 67-94 months in prison after pleading guilty for his involvement in a fatal crash.
Joseph Brandon Wood, age 49 of Ronda, will be given credit for 344 dass spent in jail. In Wilkes County Superior Court he pleaded guilty to felonious serious injury by vehicle and was sentenced to 21-35 months in prison, suspended, with 36 months of supervised probation.
The charges resulted from a crash on the morning of September 26, 2023, near East Wilkes Middle School.
Augusta Ann Hill, 29 of Thurmond, was operating a 2006 Honda Accord westbound on Macedonia Church Road when a westbound 2004 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Wood crossed the center line and the two vehicles collided head-on. Hill, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, died from her injuries at the scene according to a press release from the NC Highway Patrol.
Wilkes Emergency Medical Services transported Wood to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem with non-life-threatening injuries.
Two children were also injured in the collision.
