Wilkes County Man Dies In ATV Crash

A man was killed and another man was seriously injured when the all-terrain vehicle they operating crashed on Saturday, November 29th Roaring River.

Steven Dean Bales, 78, of ABTco Road died at the scene according to the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency personnel reached the scene about 7:30 pm but the crash happened around 1pm.

The injured victim was trapped until he was freed by Ronda Fire & Rescue. The ATV had flipped over and the top had to be removed in order to free the victim.

Wilkes EMS transported the injured man to a landing zone where he was airlifted Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem.

The accident occurred within sight of the Roaring River Fire Station on ABTco Road.
