Wilkes County Man Convicted Of Murdering His Wife

David Andrew Cheek, age 44 of Ronda, was convicted last week for the first-degree murder of his wife. He was sentenced to life in prison with no parole in the July 2024 death of Leslie Marie Galloway Cheek, in Wilkes Superior Court on Wednesday, August 8th.

A jury deliberated for just less that three-hours before returning a verdict.

On Saturday, July 20, 2024, the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office and Elkin Police Department responded to Hilltop Circle in Ronda, in reference to a man who was knocking on doors in the area.” Deputies located Cheek who was talking about his wife being dead. 42-year old Leslie Maraie Galloway Cheek was later found deceased.

Cheek stated that his wife had drowned but she had severe bruising around her eyes and on her nose. A pathologist testified she was beaten. The pathologist also testified Cheek died as the result of being strangled to death.
