Wilkes County Man Charged With Disturbing Items In Cemetery

A Wilkes County man has been charged with damaging a half-dozen headstones.

30-year old David Ryan Morlando Jr of Roaring River, was taken into custody by the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office. He’s charged with 6 counts of felony disturbing a casket or grave marker. Morlando was located by Deputies in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery and arrested on August 9th. As of Wednesday, he remained in custody under a secured bond of $15,000. An August 28th court appearance is scheduled.

Morlando has previous Wilkes County charges pending that include felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle, impersonating a law enforcement officer and indecent exposure.

According to a published report, Morlando was a Wilkes County Deputy from 2019 through 2022. Beginning in 2022, he served as a NC Highway Patrol Trooper mostly in Watauga County. He was with the Highway Patrol for a year.
