Wilkes County Man Charged With Attempted Convenience Store Heist

A Wilkes County man was arrested after he attempted to hold up a convenience store in North Wilkesboro on Wednesday afternoon.

North Wilkesboro Police have filed charges of felony common law robbery against Mark Dwayne Locklear, age 56 of North Wilkesboro.

On Wednesday, at approximately 2:30 pm, North Wilkesboro Police received a call to respond to the Run-In Store on Highway 115 near Highway 421 in reference to an armed robbery. The store clerk was said to be struggling with the suspect. Just before officers arrived, dispatch advised the subject had fled on foot across the roadway to a nearby mobile home park. A description was given of a white male wearing a black jacket and blue jeans. Oficers entered the mobile home park and observed a suspect matching the suspect description exiting a mobile home. The suspect, Locklear was taken into custody.

Locklear is being held in the Wilkes County Jail without bond.
