Wilkes County Man Arrested After Leading Officers On A Pair Of Vehicle Chases

A suspect is being held in the Wilkes County Jail with a $500,000 secured bond after being charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, fleeing with a motor vehicle to elude arrest and other offenses. Cody Lee Roberts, 34, of Millers Creek is also charged with driving while license revoked, reckless driving, driving left of center, interfering with electronic communications and parole violation.

The Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Jolly Drive in the Austin community on the morning of April 18 in reference to a stolen motor vehicle. Deputies learned that Roberts had stolen a Chevrolet Tracker from a location on Jolly Drive.

Roberts was found on Cabin Creek Road in Hays and taken into custody following a short motor vehicle chase.

Previous warrants wee pending against Roberts for violating his probation and for fleeing from law enforcement the previous day.

The chase on April 17th ended when the pursued vehicle collided with a Deputy’s patrol car. The driver of the pursued vehicle, (Roberts) escaped on foot in nearby woods in the Austin community.
