Wilkes Community College (WCC) is excited to announce the launch of its new Dental Hygiene Program, designed to prepare students for rewarding careers in oral healthcare. This program, set to begin in the upcoming academic year, will provide students with comprehensive training in dental hygiene practices, patient care, and clinical excellence.
Wilkes Community College is poised to address critical gaps in the dental workplace by establishing a state-of-the-art Dental Hygiene program designed to bridge seamlessly from our existing Dental Assisting curriculum. This program will fulfill a local and statewide need for accessible, high-quality dental hygiene education while positioning WCC as a leader in healthcare training for our region.
Leading the program is Keshia Richardson, an accomplished dental hygiene professional with 19 years of experience in both clinical practice and academic leadership. As the newly appointed Director of the Dental Hygiene Program, Richardson brings a wealth of knowledge, a passion for mentorship, and a commitment to advancing the field of oral health education.
Richardson, currently completing her master’s degree in public health from Liberty University, has been instrumental in shaping future dental professionals through innovative teaching methods, evidence-based practices, and student-centered learning. Her leadership will ensure that the Dental Hygiene Program meets accreditation standards while fostering a dynamic and engaging educational environment.
The WCC Dental Hygiene Program will offer hands-on clinical experience, state-of-the-art training facilities, and coursework focused on preventive oral care, patient education, and ethical practice. Graduates will be well-equipped to enter the workforce as skilled dental hygienists, making a positive impact on community health.
“Wilkes Community College is truly the community’s college, and we are excited to add this program to our inventory,” stated WCC President Dr. Mike Rodgers. “With a Dental Hygiene program designed to meet the dental workforce needs, we are excited about this opportunity for our community and look forward to the increased ability to improve the education and healthcare options for our citizens.”
