Two New Coaches Named At Alexander Central High School

October 13, 2023 By Richard C. Gilbert

Heather Brashear

Alexander Central High School is pleased to announce that Heather Brashear has been hired as the new Men’s Tennis Head Coach.

Brashear is employed with Alexander County Schools as a Social Studies teacher where she is in her third year of teaching at ACHS and twelfth year teaching overall. Along with being the Head Men’s Tennis Coach, Brashear serves as an assistant coach for the Volleyball team which she has done so for the past three seasons.

Alexander Central High School Athletic Director Nathan Robinson commented on the hiring of Brashear by saying “I am excited to see Coach Brashear take over our Men’s Tennis program and feel confident she will do a great job leading those young student-athletes. Coach Brashear has great enthusiasm and is very excited about her new role with the tennis program.”

Brashear commented on her new position by saying “I love coaching and seeing the athlete’s light up when they finally nail what they have been working on and everything falls into place. I also know that coaching involves picking up the pieces when things fall apart and putting the team back together and moving on to the next challenge. You can’t let failure define you!  Every day is a new challenge that we have to face with perseverance and that’s what I like to instill in my athletes. I’m excited to see what this Men’s Tennis Team can accomplish.”

Miriam Starnes

Alexander Central High School is pleased to announce that Miriam Starnes has been hired as the new Men’s and Women’s Swimming Head Coach.

Starnes is employed with Alexander County Schools as a School Counselor where she is in her first year at ACHS and tenth year overall. Coach Starnes has previous coaching experience at the middle school level where she helped coach track and field.

Alexander Central High School Athletic Director Nathan Robinson commented on the hiring of Starnes by saying “I look forward to seeing what Coach Starnes can do with our swimming program and how she can help our student-athletes compete and grow in their swimming abilities. She will bring plenty of enthusiasm and excitement to the program to help energize the athletes.”

Starnes commented on her new position by saying “I know I have big shoes to fill after coming in behind and replacing Coach Nikki Stevenson and what she did for this program. I am excited to be given this opportunity to lead the swim team and have a great team to help the program grow. Everyone should be prepared to get wet!”
