Two Fires Overnight In Alexander County. One Caused By Lightening Strike, The Other A Result Of Arson !

July 10, 2025 By Richard C. Gilbert

Two fires in Alexander County overnight. One was the result of a lightening strike, another has been declared an act or arson.

At 9:35pm, Vashti, Hiddenite and units from Iredell County responded to a residence on Old Vashti Road. The dwelling has been hit by lightening.

Interim Fire Marshal Garret Huffman says firefighters were able to save the home from extensive damage. No injuries were reported.

At 3:15am Thursday Alexander County 911 got a call concerning a camper fire on Kennington LN in the Vashti Community. When units arrived, three campers were ablaze. Huffman said earlier today,”these fires were set.” The fire investigation is now a criminal investigation.

The campers were unoccupied.

An investigation by the Fire Marshall’s Office and the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office is ongoing.
