MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – Two small earthquakes were reported in McDowell County early Friday morning.
A magnitude 2.2 earthquake was reported just north of Marion around 1:20 a.m. at a depth of about 5.6 miles, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The second magnitude 2.1 quake shook nearly the same location at 6:35 a.m. at a depth of about 1.8 miles.
Both quakes were reported in an area less than a mile east of U.S. 221 and around 2 miles north of Marion.
According to the USGS, people typically don’t report feeling earthquakes smaller than a magnitude 3.0.
